Well Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a great night last night. Thanks so much for being a part of this group and learning about smaller charities around the world and donating as little or as much as YOU decide.
There's a lot of people out there that need our help, and a dollar, a euro- whatever can make that difference, no donation is considered too small, this group only works if you all play along at home!
This month I learned about our choice when my friend Kylee sponsored a charity night at her store in Dublin Mayfly.
The January 2010 Dig Deep [A Charity Experiment] pick is:
The Umbrella Foundation
Started by a Northern Irish woman, The Umbrella Foundation help to rescue Nepal's children, reunify them with family and support 8 permanent children's homes. Children are the biggest victims of the civil war and the thousands of children living on the streets or in children's homes and orphanages are the constant reminders of the price of Nepal's struggle.
From their site:
Umbrella has focused on rescuing, housing, and educating trafficked and destitute children. The current capacity is 325 children, living in 8 houses. Now that the civil war is over, Umbrella can focus on reuniting the children with their families when conditions permit or, when reunification is not possible, providing them the education and vocational skills they need to ensure they can find gainful employment when they become adults. By focusing on this latter stage of the cycle now, we can endeavour to restart the cycle and rescue more conflict-displaced children, whose number is now estimated at 30,000.
