WOW! Who knew we could do something that could make a huge difference? I did, and thank you. I know I said I'd only write once a month, but I was just alerted that the project I chose for this month's Dig Deep pick has been fully funded!!! Thanks to the momentum we started, it brought attention to the project, more and more people gave and now they've got the money they need to buy those instruments for those incredibly special children. THANK YOU. Feels good, right?
So I chose one more, in case you wanted to give and hadn't had the time. I went with music again, and this one seems like an amazing idea, a Ukelele club in a High poverty school in Southern, CA. I got a Uke a few years ago and it's a lovely and easy instrument to learn, I think this would be a unique one to fund, so here is the link to donate and the proposal in Mrs M's own words below:
MRS M's CLASS www.DONORSCHOOSE.ORG.
Introducing my students to the artistry, beauty and sound of the Hawaiian ukulele has always been a dream of mine as an educator. As the daughter of two Hawaii born parents, I was raised with this musical instrument in the house and because of this, play everyday now with my students. It would be an amazing opportunity for them, one very rare, for me to be able to teach them to play as well. We are a high need community with not enough funds for any kind of music instrument program. Our school has a new principal who is open to more programs like the 'ukulele club' I would like to start. There has never been anything like this yet at our school location.
We have no supplies in the music field. No books, no instruments, no space. When I play the ukulele in my individual class, their faces light up. When I play the ukulele, it inspires them to sing and get excited about learning. They are curious and often express that they would love for me to teach them the ukulele. However, I have never had the opportunity to grant this wish. The majority of my students receive free lunch, and their families would not be able to purchase their own instruments.
Having 10 ukuleles can be magical to begin my ukulele club at my school. I would offer my class as well as any other interested candidates to be a part of this experience in learning how to play this beautiful instrument. They will learn basic chords to basic songs at first, and hopefully develop a love for music and the Hawaiian ukulele.
Thank you so much for considering us as a possible candidate to receive these ukuleles. You will make a difference in the lives of my students who have never had such an opportunity to play and learn in a whole group situation, the Hawaiian ukulele.
THANK YOU AGAIN FOR MAKING DIG DEEP A REALITY!
